HD skins: 128 x 128 skins on Bedrock Edition
Bedrock Edition accepts 128 x 128 skins. Where HD skins work, where they do not (Java, consoles), what we found in our own tests, and the trusted-skins setting.
An HD skin is a skin texture of 128 x 128 pixels instead of 64 x 64. The model stays the same shape; every face simply has four times as many pixels, so a face can have finer eyes, a stripe can be half as thin and a pattern can show more of itself. Not every version of the game takes one, though.

Other players and Only Allow Trusted Skins
A skin you import is shown to other players only if their game agrees to show it. Bedrock Edition has a setting, Only Allow Trusted Skins (Settings, General), that limits which skins are shown; players who have it on may see your imported skin, HD or not, as a default skin. If your own game does not recognize your skin, the official advice is to turn the setting off.
Java Edition
Java Edition skins are 64 x 64 (or the older 64 x 32). The Launcher and the profile page take those sizes, and we found no official page that offers 128 x 128 for Java. Keep a 64 x 64 version of any HD skin for Java.
Drawing an HD skin
- Start from a 64 x 64 skin and double it: every pixel becomes a 2 x 2 square. That gives a valid 128 x 128 skin that looks exactly the same.
- Then add detail where it pays: the eyes and mouth, the edges of clothes, thin stripes, jewelry.
- Keep the 2 x 2 grid in mind: the boxes' edges fall on even pixels, and details that cross an edge look broken.
- A skin that only was resized from 64 to 128 has no extra detail; label it as such if you share it.
Skins from Scan2Skin 3D
Scan2Skin 3D makes standard 64 x 64 skins, which work everywhere custom skins are allowed: Java Edition, and Bedrock Edition on phones, tablets and Windows. In the iPhone and Android apps, Pro also makes HD skins (128 x 128) for Bedrock Edition, drawn with a sharper face, finer stripes and clothing details, as a PNG and as a skin pack. The website makes 64 x 64 skins only. See the phone app.
Make a skin now, in your browser: five guided photos with the camera, or photos already taken. Nothing is uploaded. The Scan2Skin 3D app for iPhone and Android adds scan yourself, HD skins and Pro.
