How to add a custom skin in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition

Yes, you can use a custom skin on Bedrock Edition on Android, iPhone, iPad and Windows. How to add a PNG skin or a .mcpack skin pack, and the trusted skins setting.

Updated October 23, 2026

Can you use a custom skin on Bedrock Edition? Yes, on Android, iPhone, iPad and Windows; not on consoles. Bedrock Edition is the version of the game on phones, tablets, Windows and consoles, and everywhere but the consoles you can wear a skin of your own in two ways: import a PNG file in the Dressing Room, or open a skin pack, a .mcpack file that holds one or more skins. Consoles cannot import skins (see skins on consoles).

Step by step for your device: iPhone and iPad, Android or Windows.

How to add a custom skin: import a PNG in the Dressing Room

  1. Get the PNG onto the device: download it, or save it to your files.
  2. Start the game and open the Dressing Room from the main menu.
  3. Open Classic Skins (on Windows, through the menu button at the top left).
  4. Under Owned, select Import, then Choose New Skin, and pick the PNG.
  5. Choose the arm model to match the file: Classic or Slim.
  6. Confirm, and the skin is worn.
Our testThese steps are what we saw on an Android phone with the current Bedrock Edition on 2026-10-03. Xbox Support describes the same place on Windows as the blank skin under Owned Skins, then Choose New Skin. Menu names can change between versions.

How to upload a skin pack (.mcpack)

A skin pack is a zip file with a .mcpack name. Scan2Skin 3D offers one with every skin: it holds the Classic and the Slim version, and for a two-layer skin each one with and without the jacket. Packs are handy on a phone, because the game imports them by itself:

  1. Open the .mcpack file: tap it in your downloads or files app, or double-click it on Windows.
  2. The game starts and imports the pack; it says when the import has started and when it has finished.
  3. In the Dressing Room, open Classic Skins. The pack is listed under its name; choose a skin and Equip.
  4. If the pack is not there, close the game completely and open it again: the game reads new packs when it starts.

How to close the game completely: on iPhone and iPad and on Android.

Only Allow Trusted Skins

Bedrock Edition has a setting called Only Allow Trusted Skins, under Settings, General. If the game does not recognize your own imported skin, or custom skins are missing, turn it off. The Help Center also lists skins from unverified sources as one cause of world connection errors. More in Only Allow Trusted Skins.

Other players have the same setting. When theirs is on, they may see your imported skin as a default skin even though you see your own. That is their choice, and nothing in your skin file can change it.

Not on an official pageThat other players with the setting on see a default skin is what the setting's name and our tests suggest; we found no official page that describes it in those words.

Skins do not sync between devices

An imported skin stays on the device you imported it on. If you play on a phone and on a Windows PC, import it on each. Items from the Character Creator are different: they belong to your account and follow you.

Tips

Make a skin now, in your browser: five guided photos with the camera, or photos already taken. Nothing is uploaded. The Scan2Skin 3D app for iPhone and Android adds scan yourself, HD skins and Pro.
